Proposal for a Modified Family Tree (Genealogy) and Parentela Numeration System

The numeration systems and their corresponding (resulting) notations are very important achievements of the civilised world. They are widely used both in theory and in practice and they are an indespesible instrument needed in the functionings of contemporary life. This article deals with their application in genealogy, namely in creating of some genealogical trees (family trees and parentals). Since family trees are graphically presented by means of the schemes and textual lists (textual tables), their numerations will be considered in both cases. An individual numerical designation will be allocated to each member of the genealogical tree considered (unique number), which has to be unambiguously designated. We know that during the course of several hundred years the research of various genealogical numeration methods attracted the genealogists’ attention. Thus we know that there are several doesens of such methods and even more of their modifications and improvements. In this paper are presented and discussed four very well-known numerical (genealogical) systems along with their main features and their advantages and drawbacks. The aim of this paper is to, for illustration purposes, draw a comparison among these systems in order to make a correct and justifiable decision about which system (method) to choose upon which we shall carry out the modification. The numerical systems are the following: de Williers/Pama System, Henry System, Method d’Aboville and Meurgey de Tupigny System. For each stated system we shall create examples of the corresponding schemes with pertaining numerical designations of their members. They will be based on four generations with the purpose of the theoretical-practical consideration and giving the answers to already assigned task. Along with the description and explanation of the reasons, the suggestion of the Modified Meurgey de Tupigny System is presented, in which, in addition to Example 5 (graphical scheme of this system) are also given the advantages that prevailed in making the decision to introduce those modifications.
