The Suffix „-Ieren“

Abstract

The paper will examine French suffixe -ieren which entered the German language and became productive in forming verbs. At the beginning, the suffixe was added to French base forms only, but later it became productive with other base forms of the verbs. Although it originated from French, the suffixe -ieren was later responsible for widespread formation of verbs with base forms of English verbs.
