Contribution on Ottoman Civil Servants and Their Social Role in Mostar

Abstract

This paper represents a view on the social structure of Mostar during many centuries of Ottoman rule. It gives an answer to a question of who were the major figures in Mostar at that long period and what was their role. Also, it points out to a substantial efficiency of the Ottoman administration apparatus, whose system became gradually more complex. The accent is placed on various civil servants and their activities for normalization of everyday life. Those figures were mainly local people, and many of them had an important role in the history of their to wn.
